Full Itinerary

DAY 1: SALTA.

Arrival into Salta, and in the afternoon explore the city on a walking tour through its streets, churches, colonial buildings, and the High Mountain Archaeology Museum (MAAM). Ascend by cable-car to the San Bernardo Hill that has one of the most complete views of the city.

Maximum altitude: 1.152 MASL (3.779 ft.)


DAY 2: SALTA - SAN ANTONIO DE LOS COBRES (B).

Today, travel through the Toro’s Gorge towards San Antonio de los Cobres. Stop at the Tastil’s Ruins, the biggest pre-columbium city located at the current territory of Argentina at 3200 MASL (10.498 ft.). Visit the Site’s Museum where there is a series of archaeological items and objects which is a part of the Andean Road Sistem called Qhapaq Ñan. At San Antonio board the Cloud Train, unique engineering that allows you to travel to Polvorilla’s Viaduct located at 4200 MASL (13.779 ft.).

DAY 3: SAN ANTONIO DE LOS COBRES - TILCARA (B).

This morning leave through the Puna Jujeña towards Salinas Grandes. Descend along the Cuesta de Lipán to Purmamarca at the foot of Cerro de los Siete Colores (Seven Colours Hill).  At Purmamarca, tour the handcraft fair and visit Los Colorados, a trail that goes behind the Cerro de los Siete Colores. Continue to Tilcara.

Maximum altitude: 4170 MASL (13.681 ft.)


DAY 4: TILCARA (B, L, D).

Today begins at the Pucará de Tilcara, an archeological site formed made by native tilcaras at a strategic spot of the gorge. Stop at Humahuaca to reach the Hornocal and from its balcony view the stunning mountain range. Return to Tilcara via Uquia to visit its church, Maimará and to admire the Paleta del Pintor (Painter’s Palette).

Maximum altitude: 4220 MASL (13.845 FT.)


DAY 5: TILCARA - SALTA (B).

Time at leisure until your departure transfer to Salta for your flight or extend you trip.

Luggage - One normal suitcase and one handbag per person included for hotel porterage.

  • January to March is rainy season.

  • Not recommended for travellers with respiratory problems due to the high-altitude locations.

  • The Town Hall, The Cabildo and MAAM closed on Mondays.

  • Cloud Train operates on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and occasionally on Thursdays.
